About Us
I moved to Cottingham almost eleven years ago (1996) and worked in the NHS as an Auxiliary nurse, firstly on the chest ward and then on Ward One, which was for medical elderly and rehabilitation. I worked mainly on the rehabilitation side of the Ward, which I enjoyed very much. A few years before retirement I knew that I still wanted to do something which would be rewarding.
My path crossed with a lady called Eileen Redhead who practised craniosacral therapy. After having six treatments myself, Eileen and I discussed other therapies and she very kindly loaned me a book on all the different therapies available. I was absolutely fascinated by all of them and just knew that this was the path for me to take.
In 1998 I passed my Anatomy and Physiology exam and then continued with my diploma of Reflexology. Once qualified, I continued to work in the NHS and built up my clientele by working mobile. This eventually became difficult to do because of the time element and number of clients, so I started to look for premises. In the meantime I also began studying other therapies in order to be able to offer a variety. Eventually I found 221 Hallgate and gradually reduced my hours at the hospital and did both part-time for about a year.
Then came the time to ‘get my bus pass’. I was sad to leave and missed my work colleagues initially but was excited about the challenge ahead and the opportunity to practise full-time all the therapies that I had studied for. Now in my sixth year at the Healing Hut I feel very fortunate that I absolutely love my work and my reward is seeing people’s health improve. My next challenge is to work within or alongside the NHS for the benefit of the patient’s health and speedy recovery. I am on the NHS directory of Therapists and GPs should be able to refer patients for treatment just as they do with Physiotherapists.
