Massage can help to reduce stress and anxiety by relaxing both mind and body; create feelings of well-being and enhanced self-esteem. It promotes positive body awareness and an improved body image through relaxation. It eases emotional trauma through relaxation.
It improves the circulation to the skin, leads to increased nutrition to the cells and encourages cell regeneration. It improves elasticity of the skin and increased sebum production helps to improve the skin suppleness and resistance to infection, as it is a natural antiseptic.
Massage can help to reduce pain by the release of the endorphins (which are known to elevate the mood). It improves circulation, digestive system, respiratory system, urinary system, and central nervous system. It improves the lymphatic drainage system that can help reduce oedema. Regular massage may help to strengthen the immune system, due to the increase in white blood cells.
It increases the flexibility in the muscles due to muscular relaxation, increases blood circulation bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the muscles; this reduces muscle fatigue and soreness. It promotes rapid removal of toxins and waste products from the muscles. Muscle tone may improve slightly at the main contours, but they will not strengthen.
Massage mediums. There is a huge range of oils and creams available. I use an un-perfumed based oil.
How long as a massage take? Generally the treatments last one-hour but there will be occasions where longer is necessary (if you have a specific problem area). This will be decided following a full consultation.
